Colorless to pale yellow transparent liquid with a strong pungent amine odor. It is a sterically hindered tertiary amine and non-nucleophilic base with strong alkalinity but very weak nucleophilicity. It is chemically stable, volatile, highly flammable, sensitive to CO₂, strongly alkaline, corrosive and toxic.

1. Organic Synthesis (Core):As a non-nucleophilic base / proton scavenger, used in peptide synthesis (condensing agent), amidation, esterification, coupling reactions, enolization, elimination reactions, and dehydrohalogenation of halogenated hydrocarbons.
2. Pharmaceutical Intermediates:Key intermediate for the synthesis of anesthetics, anti-ulcer drugs (Esomeprazole), cholesterol-lowering drugs (Ezetimibe), antibiotics, and antiviral drugs.
3. Pesticide Field:Intermediate for the synthesis of sulfonylurea herbicides and insecticides.
4. Catalyst / Additive:Catalyst / acid-binding agent for ester hydrolysis, phenyl chloroformate condensation, alkenyl sulfone synthesis, and palladium-catalyzed carbonylation.
