Sodium methoxide solution in methanol is a colorless to slightly yellowish transparent liquid, which is strongly alkaline, highly reactive and extremely flammable. It reacts violently with water and acids, releasing heat, and is prone to deliquesce and decompose. It is mainly a solution of 27.5%~31% sodium methoxide dissolved in anhydrous methanol, and is commonly used as a strong basic condensing agent and catalyst in organic synthesis.
