Sulfolane (Tetramethylene Sulfone) is a highly polar, aprotic, thermally stable cyclic sulfone solvent. It is a colorless transparent liquid at room temperature, characterized by low volatility, low toxicity and high chemical stability. It exhibits high selective solubility for aromatic hydrocarbons and acid gases (H₂S/CO₂), and is widely used in petrochemical, natural gas and polymer processing industries.

1. Aromatic Extraction: As a key solvent in the petrochemical industry, it is used for the extraction of benzene, toluene and xylene from reformate and pyrolysis gasoline (sulfolane extraction process).
2. Acid Gas Removal: Applied for desulfurization and decarbonization of natural gas and refinery gas, with selective absorption of H₂S and CO₂ and excellent regeneration performance.
3. Polymer Processing: Used as a solvent for polyacrylonitrile spinning, and as an additive in the synthesis and processing of polysulfone / polyimide.
4. Fine Chemicals & Electronics: Used in the synthesis of pharmaceutical intermediates, as a solvent for lithium battery electrolytes, and as a reaction solvent for organic synthesis.
