Chloranil is a yellow powder with a slight odor. (NTP, 1992) Tetrachloro-1,4-benzoquinone is a member of the class of 1,4-benzoquiones that is 1,4-benzoquinone in which all four hydrogens are substituted by chlorines. It has a role as a metabolite and an EC 2.7.1.33 (pantothenate kinase) inhibitor. It is an organochlorine compound and a member of 1,4-benzoquinones.

1. The product is used as a vulcanizing agent for natural rubber, butyl synthetic rubber, nitrile rubber and neoprene.

2. It is mainly used in the production of butyl rubber inner tubes, outer tires, curing bladders, heat-resistant products, insulated wires, etc. It can be used alone or mixed with sulfur and other vulcanization accelerators (usually accelerator DM) for the manufacture of cables and sponge rubber products, at a dosage of 0.5%～4.0%. The addition of 5%～20% can improve the bonding strength between rubber compounds and textile materials.

3. The product is used in the manufacture of the antineoplastic drugs iminoquinone and ethyleniminequinone, and the diuretic drug spironolactone. It is also used as a dye intermediate and agricultural seed dressing agent.

4. Used as an oxidizing agent and insecticide. Applied in the manufacture of chloranil electrodes and organic synthesis.

5. Used as a color reagent for the spectrophotometric determination of isoniazid. Also used in organic synthesis and preparation of chloranil electrodes.
